"The Barn"

"The Barn"
5 x 7
Oil on Panel

This painting was done for the owners of this fabulous vacation home in the mountains of North Carolina.  The home and setting were exquisite and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I loved painting it.  I thought the floating frame really enhanced the painting so I wanted to share.

This is one of the deer found in Radnor Lake, a beautiful state park in Nashville, TN.  It's one of my favorite places to go.  It's a great place to see wildlife and you totally forget you are in the middle of a city.  Enjoy!

"Basket of Gold"

"Basket of Gold"

I recently received this beautiful basket full of my favorite apples - Jonagolds.  They came from a farmers market in North Carolina.  I feel certain they were recently picked because the flavor was amazing.  The kind of flavor that comes from ripening on the tree.  And they make the best apple pie. I love apple season!

"The Works"

"The Works"
6 x 6
Oil on Panel

I had the song "Cheeseburger in Paradise" stuck in my head the whole time I was painting this painting.  It has all of the ingredients named in the song except for Heinz 57.  We'll just assume it's on the bun.  I decided to experiment with impasto painting - a thick application of paint.  I like seeing the brush strokes.

"The Fabric of Our Lives"

"The Fabric of Our Lives"
6 x 6
Oil on Panel

A fun part of the painting process for me is naming the paintings.  While painting my laundry room the idea to paint a load of laundry and call it the "Fabric of Our Lives" popped into my head.  I was going for as much color as possible thinking this painting would be a fun way to liven up any laundry room.

"Little Red Pocketbook"

"Little Red Pocketbook"
6" x 6"

My mother always used the term "pocketbook", so this makes me think of her.  As a little girl, I always felt very dressed up when I had a "pocketbook" to match my outfit.

Every year Nashville's foreign born residents get together to celebrate their cultures by dressing in cultural attire, providing authentic ethnic food and performing a variety of dance and music.  This woman was dressed in a beautiful sari that I just had to paint. This year's festival is on October 4, 2014.  Visit the website here if you are interested.

"Anticipation"

"Anticipation (mini)"

I painted this image in a larger piece using pastels.  I liked it so much I wanted to try it with oils using a loose, painterly application.  I think it works well in a small format.

"A Fine Leather Hat"

"Fine Leather Hat"
8x8 oil on panel
Sold

I love this guy's hat.  It was a lot of fun to paint. This gentleman was dancing at a bluegrass music festival where I captured his image.  He was caught up in the music and seemed to be having a grand time.  We all have the need for celebration and he was definitely getting that need met.

Thank you for viewing my art.

"Which Way"

Lately, I am intrigued by the practice of painting daily.  The understanding that painting as frequently as I can will improve my painting is inspiring me to adopt this practice.  So I am creating this blog to keep me motivated.  Bear with me as I learn how to format my blog.

"Which Way"
5 x7 oil on panel
 Sold

I've chosen this painting for my first post.  This painting made me happy to paint.  Painted loose and painterly, I can only imaging the conversation this couple might be having in choosing which way they should go.
